Michael Becker, born 1966 in Osnabrück, comes from a family of musicians. After his schooling in Hannover, Michael Becker studied viola with Jürgen Kussmaul in Düsseldorf. He was a member of the Kölner Kammerorchester, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the European Community Youth Orchestra and the Städtische Bühnen Krefeld / Mönchengladbach Orchestra. After studying at the “Institute for Journalism and Communication Research” in Hanover, he worked for newspapers such as the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung or the Rheinische Merkur and broadcasters such as Mitteldeutsche and Norddeutscher Rundfunk.
From 1994 to 2006, Michael Becker was Artistic Director of the Niedersächsische Musiktage, before he became Artistic Director in Düsseldorf in 2007. Michael Becker also worked intensively with the NDR Radiophilharmonie. He is director of the Schumannfest Düsseldorf, member of the Theater- und Orchesterkonferenz NRW, curator of the Mädchenchor Hannover, senator of the Niedersachsen Foundation, director of the Orchestra Academy of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and of the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
