The Robert Schumann International Competition in Düsseldorf was opened last night, 5th March, in the foyer of Partika-Saal at the Robert Schumann Hochschule. The Artistic Director, Barbara Szczepanska and the Managing Director, Simona Gjorceva greeted the 57 participants from around the world – 12 in category A, 28 in category B and 17 in category C. The order of performance was determined with a letter draw, which in this case was the letter J. As members of the jury joined some of the most distinguished pianists and pedagogues from Europe and Asia: Barbara Szczepanska, William Fong, Pavel Gililov, Grigory Gruzman, Peiyu Huang and Elza Kolodin, as well as the Artistic Director of Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Michael Becker. The competition started today, 6th March, with the youngest participants playing in the first round and continuing with the first round of the B category. All the performances are opened to the public and are live streamed on the Schumann Competition Düsseldorf You Tube channel.
